ABOUT US

Mighty Minds Africa works to elevate the African youth to create opportunities and solutions to challenges in education, skills acquisition, employment and community issues by creating a supercharged environment focused on holistic development, social entrepreneurship, and direct employment outcomes that act as a catalyst for youth to pursue their ideas with confidence, become community leaders and contributors to the structural transformation of African society thus breaking the culture of poverty.

Many Africans in the diaspora are familiar with the common practice of remittances “often used to describe a sum of money sent by someone working abroad to his or her family back home”. Most times this is a means of survival for our loved ones. While this is important and sometimes necessary it is often unsustainable due to a lack of knowledge or skills transfer that results in people being able to generate and sustain their own livelihood. In 2016 our founder Ifunanya Enezuagu faced a similar situation but this time she asked “How might we help young people move into innovative mindsets that facilitate change, create enterprise and knowledge transfer within their communities?” This question took her on a journey to an entrepreneurship conference in Lagos, a university in Enugu and many meetings and interviews with youth in Nigeria and with other supporters of this question. It was not until 2018 while teaching Social Entrepreneurship at a program based at Stanford University and Leadership and Innovation at a program based at Columbia University in 2019 to a group of elite and well-intentioned youth who using the design thinking method created projects to solve some of the world’s toughest social problems; homelessness, food waste, plastic pollution, from food insecurity in Malaysia to physical security for street kids in the Favelas of Brazil. It became clear in these moments that the only difference between the youth in these programs and the youth in Africa is the access to knowledge, support and re-enforcement that they have the power to solve their own problems.

Mighty Minds Africa stands in the gap to provide training opportunities contextualized for African youth ages 14-30, with access to the skills and mentorship necessary to thrive in life, work and business and above all, an inclusive, community-centered approach to personal, intellectual and professional development. We convene the great minds and talents of the global African diaspora in business, government and technology through the Mighty Minds Africa Business Network, recognizing that we are a proponent of the structural transformation of Africa, because when we all rise, change is inevitable.
